Financial support for youth groups
Perth and Kinross based youth organisations will receive a financial boost after a proposed new partnership scheme was agreed.
The Gannochy Trust and Perth and Kinross Council have begun a three-year partnership which will provide financial and practical support to locally based youth organisations.
Perth and Kinross’s commissioning services board has approved the proposals which will allow the organisations to tender for £300,000 per year for the next three years.
This initiative has come about as both organisations recognise that working together can better support local youth groups to provide young people with a place to go and opportunities to be involved in activities.
The partnership will aim to allow for easier access to core funding, a streamlined monitoring service and equity of resource.
Bruce Renfrew, a Gannochy Trustee, said:“The aim of this partnership is to invest in organisations that make a difference within Perth and Kinross so that they can deliver quality outcomes for young people”.
Local engagement events took place throughout the summer to involve providers in each of the five localities across Perth and Kinross.
Councillor Caroline Shiers, convener of lifelong learning said: “I am delighted to welcome this partnership with the Gannochy Trust for their enthusiastic approach to working with PKC and local youth organisations.
“On a personal level, having worked with SCYD and Alyth Youth Partnership as a volunteer, I know what a difference it makes to have access to core funding sources. There are often pots of funding for specific projects but access to funds for the everyday running costs has proven more difficult.
“We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with Gannochy Trust over the coming years and seeing significant benefits for local young people as a result.”
The tender process started last week through the public service tender portal.
Any organisations wishing to place a bid for the tender can do so with support being offered from PKAVS.
