Wheely excited by cycle path plan

Public’s reaction to council bid

new people.

“I also find that I can spend my time cycling to think through some of the issues happening within the council and our communities and most importantly, as an ambassador for Perth and Kinross, cycling is a great way of living life well.”

Locals can post their comments on a map on the website and ideas have been wide-ranging.

One post hit out at the high levels of pollution on Queen’s Bridge.

It said: “The pollution here is horrific. It reminds me of the London levels I quit London to escape.

“My kids walk along South Street bridge to get to school across the road and we breathe it in every day from the nose to tail traffic from Tay Street down South Street and to the Dundee Road.

“My son has developed a cough. It is so bad I want to move them to a different school.”

Another poster for the area said: “This bridge is a pinch-point for cyclists and one can only travel it safely by either obstructing the traffic by cycling in the centre of a lane or cycling on the pavement dodging pedestrians.

“Solution - mark a cycle lane and pedestrian lane on one or both pavements.”

Another called for more trees and cycle parking at St John’s Shopping Centre.

“Here it would be great again to have cycle parking so I can start my shopping from here.

“Trees would benefit. Loads people are around because of bus stops. Trees would make waiting more pleasant.”
