WE GOTTA DANCE - SO STEP ON IT

‘Performing arts classes vital to health’

- MELANIE BONN

The owner of a Perth dance studio has urged politicians to let her open sooner than planned to help get kids active.

Brooke Robertson of Inspire Dance Studio is anxious that in the timeline for reopening after COVID-19, her sector will be last in the queue due to ministers not noting the difference between youngsters meeting to train and “sweaty” fitness gyms for adults.

And although she has no issues with being closed at the moment, she feels it is wrong to leave dance studios shut until gyms are able to reopen, which will not be until August at the earliest.

She told the PA: “It’s not about money, wages or being able to pay the rent, it’s about our children’s mental health in having something they love and a way to express themselves freely taken away from them.”
