SBS is a form of trau­matic brain in­jury. It’s con­sid­ered a pre­ventable and se­vere form of phys­i­cal child abuse, which re­sults from throw­ing or hit­ting a baby or shak­ing them by the shoul­ders, arms, or legs. The whiplash ef­fect can cause bleed­ing within the brain or the eyes.
