Colonic atresia is a rare congenital condition in which the colon fails to develop correctly in the womb, causing a blockage in the baby’s bowel. Symptoms include halted bowel movement, swollen belly, refusal to eat and persistent vomiting. Potentially life-threatening, colonic atresia is usually treated with surgery that repairs the obstruction.
