Travels For Two!
Cherry’s dream trip was out of this world
My now hubby always knew I loved travel.
‘I want to walk the world!’ I told him, when we first met in 2012.
Tom, 31, was on board, but had speedier plans. Cycling!
And, after tying the knot in March 2014, we found an old tandem in Tom’s family shed. Spruced up, it was perfect! Despite riding the tandem only once, on 1 February last year we flew to Singapore, the tandem in the hold.
We rode from Singapore to Malaysia, Thailand, Laos. Spent three months in China, went to Kyrgyzstan, crossed from Kazakhstan to Turkey, Serbia, Hungary...
Then we travelled around Europe, visiting France and Germany to name just a couple – before heading back home to Bath via Portsmouth!
We fell off a few times, but suffered no major injuries.
The heat change was really drastic from Asia to Europe. And, by the time we got there, it was December, so camping was tricky then.
Often, there was nowhere to wash or contact family from.
It took 11 months in total, and we travelled 10,000 miles, touring 20 countries.
The wind was against us all the way – but it was worth it. We met amazing people, and the cultures were outstanding.
Tom and I are closer than ever now. The trip tested our marriage, and we came out the better for it – although Tom’s beard is out of control!
I know for sure I’d do it all again tomorrow!
It was wheely great fun… not tandemonium!
Back home: me, Tom and the beard!
