Don’t put it off!

With the Coronavirus pandemic at the forefront of people’s minds, lots of people are putting off a trip to the doctors in a bid to avoid burdening the NHS or because they fear catching the virus themselves.

But with urgent cancer referrals down 60 per cent over the last few months and smear tests thought to be missed, doctors are urging people to not put off seeing their GP or attending appointments because of the pandemic. Professor Peter Johnson, NHS national clinical director for cancer, said: ‘Lives are saved if more people are referred for checks, so my message to anyone who has a worrying symptom is: the NHS is here for you and can provide safe checks and treatment if you need it, so please help us help you, and get in touch with your local GP like you usually would.’
