CAA launches ap­pli­ca­tions for 8.33khz ra­dio fund­ing

The ap­pli­ca­tion process for 8.33 khz ra­dio grants has now been launched by the CAA. All air­craft reg­is­tered in the EU are re­quired to have moved over to 8.33 khz ra­dios by 31 De­cem­ber 2017. In recog­ni­tion of the costs in­curred by pri­vate pi­lots and light air­craft own­ers in mak­ing the tran­si­tion from ex­ist­ing 25 khz ra­dios to 8.33 khz equip­ment, €4.3 mil­lion of fund­ing is be­ing made avail­able by the EU. The con­tract al­lows a max­i­mum per­mit­ted grant of 20% of the es­ti­mated to­tal cost of 8.33 khz re-equip­ment, in­clud­ing the hand­held units used by many op­er­a­tors of Light Air­craft As­so­ci­a­tion Per­mit to Fly air­craft.
