North­ern Ire­land HEMS ser­vice launched

After twelve years of cam­paign­ing, North­ern Ire­land’s Air Am­bu­lance ser­vice fi­nally be­gan op­er­a­tions in early August. From its base at the for­mer Maze/long Kesh prison site near Lis­burn the HEMS EC135 will be able to reach any part of the coun­try within 25 min­utes. A sec­ond EC135 will be based at St An­gelo Air­port in En­niskillen.

The ser­vice will be staffed by two pi­lots, six full-time paramedics and a team of fif­teen doc­tors.
