Above and beyond
I wanted to put in a word praising Henstridge aerodrome. Returning from Aubigny-sur-nère on 15 July this year, we had to divert into Henstridge due to inclement weather. Geoff, the owner, fed and watered us, put everything at our disposal, and fixed accommodation for us. Bill, a resident pilot ferried us to it, and in the morning we were collected by another resident pilot. This was all done with no fuss, and payment was refused.
On the Sunday, we were unable to reach our mountain strip objective in South Wales
due to low cloud and we diverted into Cardiff/rhoose, who again were fantastic, the controller even offering me a lift to Hay-on-wye, if I could wait until his shift finished.
It really doesn’t get much better than that! Hats off to both aerodromes and a big thank-you for your terrific service. Gilbert Davies
Good to hear, Gilbert. Sadly, in stark contrast, Pilot’s Assistant Editor was charged a full landing fee at Lydd for a recent weather diversion and not even offered a cup of tea! - Ed
