US ambhibian manufacturer Lake Aircraft up for sale

Pilot - - NOTES -

Lake Aircraft, manufacturer of the LA-4 Renegade, Seafury and Seawolf amphibians, is up for sale. The package on offer includes FAA type certificates, worldwide manufacturing and marketing rights, component and assembly tooling, dies, jigs and engineering drawings. Lake staff will also be available to help the new owner with transition and continued production. “The manufacturing operation can then be used as a foundation to expand into bigger and more complex aircraft,” said Armand Rivard, president of Revo Inc, the Lake Aircraft holding company.

The LA-4’S origins date back seventy years, when the prototype two-seat Colonial XC-1 Skimmer, designed by David Thurston, first flew. It went into production in 1956, and 42 Skimmer C-1s and more powerful C-2s were built before the manufacturer went bankrupt in 1959. Its assets were acquired by Lake Aircraft Corporation, and LA-4 first appeared in 1960. Subsequently, more than 1,000 Lake amphibians were manufactured before series production ceased in 2009.
