Brogue or glory
American-british Barker Black has adopted brogue patterns as a stylistic feature. Inspired by the 17th Lancers, a famous British Army cavalry regiment, Barker Black creates playful patterns based on the regiment’s well-known "Death or Glory” motto. This regiment was rather scornfully knicknamed “The Bingham Dandies” after Lord Bingham who, in the early 1800s, purchased his officer’s title and invested in new elegant uniforms for all his soldiers. Today Lord Bingham’s vanity lives on in a pair of brogues.
