Agnelli's feeling for collars

Plaza Magazine UK & Europe - - MANUAL -

The button down shirt was created for polo players. The points of the collar were given button-holes for fixing to buttons on the chest to prevent them from flapping around during a match. A passionate wearer of button down shirts was the late Fiat boss and style icon Gianni Agnelli. On his journeys to New York he purchased button down shirts from Brooks Brothers, ignored their function and instead left the collar unbuttoned to lend an Italian flair. The notorious playboy wears his button down collar unfastened. The phenomenon still lives on through modern Italian dandies such as Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo and the fabric king Luciano Barbera.
