Plaza Magazine UK & Europe - - TAILORING -

The movie Exit through the gift shop, made by the renowned street artist Banksy, first went up at the acclaimed Sundance film festival. The film was later to be Oscar nominated. Although it's not been confirmed whether the film is a documentary or fiction, the anonymous artist insists it's a true story. The film focuses on the mystery surrounding Banksy, the confusion around his identity and his habit of working in secrecy during the night in public loca- tions. Banksy's work now sells for staggering amounts with the latest piece fetching a record high 675 000 pounds. The film's protagonist is a French immigrant in Los Angeles who develops a deep obsession with street art and eventually starts to work for Banksy. Increasing the value of the buildings on which they have been painted, Banky's artwork often criticises society. Much of his work has been dismounted in order to be sold or preserved. The enormous success of Exit through the gift shop surprised few and the hysteria surrounding anything Banksy is showing no signs of slowing down.
