Police scoop top award for mental health
HAMPSHIRE Constabulary has scooped a top award for its work on officer mental health.
The force was awarded top spot in the Mental Health category of the 2020 Oscar Kilo Awards for its efforts on PPE for the Mind – a psychological and behavioural skills training programme.
The Oscar Kilo Awards, home of the National Police
Wellbeing Service, was created to recognise the work of forces in providing support across UK policing.
The project aims to boost psychological flexibility and increase personal resilience to help officers deal with difficult experiences.
The programme, specifically designed for police officers, seeks to be a preventative measure.
The course ran between January and June last year with nearly 200 officers and staff taking part.
Oscar Kilo praised Hampshire police for its ‘outstanding contribution to improving the wellbeing of its staff ’.
Helen Mears, HR business partner and tactical wellbeing lead, said: ‘It is great to be recognised by Oscar Kilo for the work that has taken place in relation to PPE for the Mind.
‘As a force, we are trying to be innovative and forwardthinking to provide the support that officers and staff need and this is just one of the many services that have been introduced over the last two years as we have made great strides in relation to wellbeing.’
