I wish to make comment on natural burial funerals as I had occasion to attend one at the Sustainabi­lity Centre.

I have to give my descriptio­n of such as quite ghastly compared to what one has been used to.

The wicker work coffin was brought to the service officiatin­g site in the back of an old shooting brake car and was carried into an open-sided round hut for the send off-service.

The round hut had connotatio­ns of a stone age round house and the coffin was placed before a stone fireplace.

As it was a cold day someone asked, bizarrely, for a fire to be lit in the grate of the fireplace and other people asked for the hanging canvas curtain awnings to be pulled around the periphery of
