Three new inshore lifeboats have been launched in Whitby thanks to a major fundraising drive. In 2016, Will Healey of the Warter Priory Estate in East Yorkshire, held a clay shoot, auction and a ball, raising enough money to fund three D-class inshore lifeboats for the RNLI. Two of the lifeboats were named at a ceremony in Whitby. The first was called Warter Priory and is set to remain in Whitby, while the second was named Eric Howland in memory of Mr Healey’s grandfather, who served in the Royal Navy. This lifeboat will join the RNLI’s relief fleet and will serve around the coast of the UK and Ireland. The third lifeboat will be named at a later date and go into service along the north-east coast in 2018.
