I’m delighted. We’ve had the furler for three months now and it has worked faultlessly, including a couple of high-pressure furls and unfurls during spinnaker hoists and drops on the Round the Island race.
To allow us to quickly snub the line when reefing the line passes through a deck-mounted footblock with a lever cam, modified to allow me to fit the endless line without remaking the splice.
The endless line gives complete control over the speed of rolling and unrolling the sail, and the design gives maximum leverage at all times, which has made starting the roll noticeably easier. It is possible for the slack line to collect in a heap on the foredeck, and although this has not resulted in a tangle to date I plan to use a piece of bungee and block to keep the slack aft.
