SEABINS FOR PORT SOLENT AND GOSPORT
Rogue plastic and other floating debris is now being collected by Seabins at Premier’s Gosport and Port Solent marinas.
It has partnered with the Portsmouth-based environmental consultancy, Helistrat, to help tackle marine plastic waste. Premier has previously used a boat to collect rubbish.
The Seabins use mains electricity and will float around the marinas before being emptied twice a day. Rubbish will be recycled if possible.
The general manager at Port Solent and Gosport marinas, Graham Bristowe, said the Seabins allow them to collect waste ‘more frequently and efficiently’ and more Seabins could be introduced to Premier marinas in the future.
Each Seabin picks up half a tonne of rubbish a year
