£1.6MILLION FOR SCOTTISH CANALS
Repairs and improvements to Bonnybridge and Twechar bridges on the Forth and Clyde Canal, and Ardrishaig Pier, can go ahead after the Scottish Government announced £1.625m in extra funding for Scottish Canals.
The Bonnybridge and Twechar bridges have been closed since January after an inspection revealed the operating mechanisms to be unsafe. This resulted in no through traffic between Bowling and Grangemouth.
The Inland Waterways Association has been pushing for repairs to be urgently made due to the impact on local boats.
Scottish Canals said while it welcomed the funding, it had a repairs backlog in excess of £70m, and would work with the government to address this challenge.
