3 Glentrool Holiday Park

-

Outdoor enthusiasts will love this site’s location at the foot of the fabulous Galloway Forest, 300 square miles of wilderness. As such, the park has been nicknamed Expedition Base Camp and has an impressive set of facilities designed with hikers in mind.

These include a bike, boot and dog washing point to keep your van sparkling clean at all times. There are toilets and showers, laundry facilities, free Wi-fi, a dog walk (with bags provided) and a small shop offering the basics.

The bothy, where guests can lounge, is a nice touch – it includes a freezer and a microwave. There is a hotel and restaurant only eight minutes’ walk away, and the Glentrool Visitor Centre and café are one-and-a-half miles away; a perfect stop off after a jaunt into the forest.

Galloway Forest is the UK’S first Dark Sky Park, which makes this a great site for budding (or even experienced) astronomers, but it is also ideal for walkers and cyclists; numerous walking routes run close to the park, and there are wildlife reserves aplenty.

All pitches at Glentrool Holiday Park are on hardstanding and the site has been thoughtfully laid out, with low dry stone walls and a pretty pond. It is also perfect for peace and quiet.
