Transverse island beds are much more common in touring caravans than they are in motorhomes, mainly because of a caravan’s increased width. Such a layout gives you the comfort of a fixed double without having to sacrifice as much space as you would with an in-line bed.

Transverse island bed layouts with end washrooms, as in this arrangement, are even more popular because they usually mean you get a real sense of space in the middle of the van.

Pros

Having the washroom at the end of the van rather than in the middle gives you more privacy

Cons

The washroom is less accessible for anyone sleeping in the front A You can often access the underbed storage externally

B Make sure there is enough room to get around the bed

C The end washroom can sometimes be small

D Freeing up the middle should mean the kitchen is bigger
