Celebration 480 (2009)
Swift Celebration 480 from 2009
Although it has been around for quite a few years now, the Celebration can still make a good first-time buy, says Andy Jenkinson
DEALER SPECIALS SUCH as the Swift Celebration, which has been around for a good few years, always seem to gather something of a following among those caravanners who are looking for that little bit extra, but all at a price that doesn’t break the bank. The Celebration is a good bet as a used buy, offering excellent kit and reliable quality, even in older models such as those from the 2009 range. The first Celebrations were based on the Ace Jubilee range, which had proved a popular choice after Swift relaunched the brand in 2001. Added to this, the Celebration was provided with some spec and finish from the more upmarket Ace Award. So by 2009 the spec level was really impressive, with blown-air heating, shower, oven, alarm, heavy-duty corner steadies, barbecue point, side wet locker, extractor fan and alloys. Model history The Celebration range was launched for 2005, with six layouts in the line-up. The 480, part of the range from day one, came with a front lounge and side dresser, with the kitchen opposite. The washroom was located in the rear of the caravan. All based on the Al-ko chassis, the Celebration line-up included a twin-axle six-berth family model. The range began with the 480, followed by the 520, 500, 570, 490 and 590. By 2009 they all came with plenty of kit. A twist to the Celebration’s history can make things a bit confusing for potential buyers. By November 2008, with a recession looming, Swift had decided that the Ace, Abbey and Award names were to be axed, even though the 2009 models had begun production. By the end of 2008, the Ace range had indeed been discontinued, but Swift’s Charisma replaced many of their dealer specials, including the Celebration. So from 2010, the Charisma became the base for the Celebration. Our example is from 2009, with an Ace Jubilee bodyshell.
