‘I've actually owned the Interceptor twice…'

Both cars belong to me although naturally my son Stephen is very much involved when I need a second driver. The Jag I have owned for 10 years; it has still got the XK engine but it has been modified, tweaked and gas-flowed. It now sounds glorious and there is a bit of extra power to play with. I’ve gone right through the whole thing and that includes the brakes. It has XJ40 front seats and rear seat belts. The bodywork is next.

The Interceptor is a 1971 SII and I have had it almost for forever. I’ve actually owned it twice. I bought it back over 20 years ago, and that is when I decided to restore it. I pretty much did a full nut-and-bolt restoration on it. The usual story ensued– I started out curing a few oil leaks and ended up with it in bits spread all over the workshop. The toughest part was body-related, as the windscreen washer jet is almost impossible to get to when everything else is in place. I didn’t rush it so it was done right. The colour is a Renault 25 hue I believe – it was beige originally.

Mk2 and Interceptor SII – two Brit greats in one family.
