PRACTICAL CLASSIC? A WEEK WITH A P5

-

Everything you’ve heard about the P5 is true – it really is utterly usable in modern conditions. With a massive boot and more than enough performance to keep up at motorway speeds, the P5 cossets just like a luxury car should.

Sure, this comes at the expense of handling; the P5 wallows in corners, but it’s easy enough to sort if you’re bothered that much. The V8 sounds fabulous too, but it does have a drink habit if you use the available performance; we managed 20mpg on a gentle run, but 16-18mpg is a more typical average.

The coupé we tried for a week was a lovely machine, but don’t be afraid to buy one of the cheaper saloons instead; there’s a bit more interior space, which in the coupé is at a premium.
