Wearing shoes in

-

QI’ve just fitted brake shoes to my Anglia. One wheel is now binding a little. Its adjuster is fully off. The drum rotates until it’s fully engaged with the halfshaft flange, which is when the binding starts. Joe branelly, Darlington

AIs there a ridge on the innermost edge of the drum’s friction surface? If so, remove it with emery cloth, being careful not to damage the rest of the surface. It’s also possible that the backplate is slightly distorted. Taking the car for a run and making frequent light use of the brakes will probably be enough to bed them in. Readjust them when they’ve cooled off.
