I’ve a soft-spot for the MKII. In fact, I’ve had 25 Golfs. From a 1.4 Ryder to a myriad of 8v GTIS. But my small-bumper 16v GTI is the best hot hatch VW has ever made. It’s light and nimble with a high-revving, twincam engine we associate with the Italians, though it has been put together with German precision.
