Dur­ing treat­ment, ex­er­cise care in dos­ing med­i­ca­tion, as some chem­i­cal com­pounds con­tained in them are harm­ful to these fish. They are also sus­cep­ti­ble to var­i­ous bac­te­rial in­fec­tions, which may man­i­fest as a dark­en­ing of the skin and pop-eye.
