Modern AF systems are pretty impressive, but when it comes to macro photography there’s really no substitute for the precision of manual focusing. All you need to do is activate Live View, and press the Magnify button on the back of your camera. On most models, pressing it once will magnify the area around the focus point 5x, and twice will magnify it 10x. When zoomed in, you can adjust the position of the magnified area using the camera’s D-pad. Once you’ve found the point within the frame that you want to appear perfectly sharp, switch the lens to MF, and adjust the focus ring carefully while watching the LCD. If you prefer to focus using AF, ensure only one focus point is active so the camera focuses on one precise area.

Above For accurate manual focus, switch to Live View and press the magnify button on the camera. Then adjust the focus ring until your image is sharp.
