Beyond the lens
The stories behind the world’s greatest shots
Epic self-portraits, fascinating architecture and classic cars with a twist.
I shot this image at the top of the cliffs above Reynisfjara beach in southern Iceland, as part of an ongoing personal self-portrait series. I wanted to capture something depicting the insane feeling of freedom I felt standing up there. I normally use a tripod to set up for these self-portraits, but with the wind so strong I ended up using a good friend to step in as a tripod for me. I set my focal length to 16mm because I wanted to capture as much of the beautiful scene as possible.
