Capturing unusual photos of famous locations can be difficult, so take a leaf out of Davide Vezzoli’s (500px.com/ davidevezzoli) book and utilise a fun prop.
“I was initially a bit confused when my wife, Silvia, asked me to buy a glass ball to take artistic images with our camera. However, once I started taking shots with it I immediately knew what my wife had seen in this innocuous object.
“A few weeks later we were visiting Venice and wanted an unusual viewpoint. My wife told me to place the glass ball on an overpass with the best view of the most famous bridge in Venice.
“I put the ball on the marble handrail, but it was very crowded and windy where I was shooting, so I had to move quickly. If that ball had fallen onto a person or gondola below I could have been re-mortgaging my house! I used an aperture of f/1.4 for a very shallow depth-of-field. This gave me a shutter speed of 1/2000sec, as it was very bright.”
