What’s the story? Hit ebay last November on a Friday after my wife went to bed. It was an all original P1 with 7100 miles (the holy grail of 7Rs outside of the 7RR) and in good condition except for a cut rear mudguard, non-standard hugger, and some blemishes in the fairing, I also noticed it was intermittently running on three.

Progress so far? I stripped her down to frame and motor, sent the fairings to an awesome local bike paint shop called J&S Race paints. Every single carb diaphragm was pinched and one definitely punctured so a new set along with a carb rebuild kit was sourced from NRP carbs. I then discovered the cracked float bowl when the carbs where plumbed back in. I couldn’t find any advertised for ZX-7RS so took a chance on a ZZ-R600 float bowl and lucked out.

What’s next? I’ve not had a chance to ride her properly yet and probably won’t till next spring due to working away from home, and I like to potter about on an old and very heavily corroded BMW 1150GS when the weather turns poor. So the ride is something I’m really looking forward to.

Not sure the bike should really be kept in a sauna, but that’s North Wales for you

Resplendent in red and purple, these early ZX-7RS are bloody lovely
