Marshalling rocks

Practical Sportsbikes (UK) - - In Your Shed - Brian Silk, email

Great article on the Classic TT in this month’s PS. I had always wanted to go to the Island but never got round to it until last year at the age of 69. It’s never too late!

This year I decided to go to the Classic and also to try marshalling for the first time. I am so sorry I waited so long. Despite delays and weather on some days I had a great time. The experienced marshals were all really helpful and showed us ‘the ropes’ and, whilst there was one, minor, accident at Signpost, where I was for most of the time, it took only a very short time to clear it up so that racing could continue.

As a marshal you get a great view of the racing and free programme, badges and discounts at the local chippie (among other things!). The Marshals supper was a bonus I didn’t know about until this year. A great meal and entertainment from John Mcguinness, Conor Cummins and Brad Vicars, and all free! I can only recommend to any reader who has ever felt he/she wanted to attend, and help, GO! as soon as you can. I only wish I’d done it years ago.

Hopefully I’ll be back next year.
