Give a child a chance Be a Swiis Foster Carer

SWIIS FOSTER CARE IS A NATIONWIDE INDEPENDENT FOSTERING AGENCY THAT IS COMMITTED TO ACHIEVING THE BEST POSSIBLE OUTCOMES AND MAKING A REAL DIFFERENCE FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE LOOKED AFTER

-

Since its inception in 1999, Swiis Foster Care has grown to become a nationally recognised company of exceptional standing. During this time, we have continued to expand our service provision, with 13 foster care facilities caring for nearly 700 looked after children and young people nationwide.

The success of Swiis Foster Care is due to the dedicated focus of our highly qualified professionals who recognise the need to place children and young people right at the centre of everything that we do in life.

Swiis Foster Care works within an ethos of providing absolute quality and genuine care. We aspire to work in real partnership with local authorities to provide the greatest possible outcomes for all children who are in our care. We recognise that one of the most essential aspects of our overall dedication to “children looked after” is the standard of our carers. Swiis Foster Care provides comprehensive support to every Swiis carer to ensure that they have the training, support services and constant appreciation and guidance they need to provide the best care possible to the children within our care.

Cate, a Swiis Foster Carer of eight years, says that this was the main reason she chose Swiis. “Initially I contacted several different agencies and Local Authorities and had a chat with them over the phone and asked a few questions about how it would be to foster as a same-sex couple and if they had any concerns about that. Based on the answers we got we went with the agency we felt most comfortable with and which offered us the most support, which was Swiis from the offset. The ongoing support from Swiis has been excellent, I can’t fault it. Through difficult times with placements to our wedding, or civil partnership as INTERVIEW WITH WITH TIM NOTCHELL, CEO OF SWIIS FOSTER CARE When was Swiis Foster Care set up? Having held senior management positions in local authority social services departments, our Chairman and owner - Dev Dadral - founded Swiis in 1988 to initially respond to the need of Local Authorities for it was called back then, our honeymoon — we got fantastic support from Swiis throughout.”

There are many misconceptions about who can become a foster carer, and many people from the LGBT community have often worried about this being a hindrance to fostering. “It concerned me what people’s opinions would be and how we would be viewed as a same-sex couple, but it is not something we have ever come across. I think many people will be surprised, we have always had more than one same sex-couple in our local agency and we have always been well supported and fairly treated.”

Chris, a new Swiis Foster Carer, who fosters alongside his partner Phil and their two adopted sons, said that he had always known he wanted to foster as well as adopt and never had any concerns about his same-sex partnership being an issue. “Fostering is very different from adopting or being a parent. People often think that fostering is like being someone’s parent, but it’s not. People often worry about getting too attached to the children in their care, but if you are good at your job you ensure that the child is safeguarded whilst in your care, and help them achieve their happy ever after — with their parents and family — as this is where they truly belong.“ quality experienced qualified social workers.

Due to the development of many successful and productive professional relationships with social services departments across London, Swiis has since been able to expand its range of services in both social and health care. As part of this development, in 1999 Swiis Foster Care was established. Swiis Foster Carers provide safe and stable homes and futures for children and young people every day. Our carers are all ordinary people, who are living ordinary lives, but each one of them has a huge commitment to help shape the lives of vulnerable young children who need looking after.
