‘Mine is an ac­ci­den­tal ca­reer. It wasn’t planned, al­though I love cook­ing. I have an arts de­gree, in phi­los­o­phy and his­tory of art. Af­ter univer­sity, I moved to Lon­don. I needed a job and could cook, so I worked at a cater­ing com­pany. Af­ter that, I ran a cafe in Chelsea Har­bour for 18 months, then I met a food stylist, who ar­ranged food for pho­to­shoots and TV. I didn’t know such a job ex­isted, but I found it re­ally in­ter­est­ing. One day, I did some work on Great Bri­tish

Menu, cov­er­ing some­one on hol­i­day. I ended up work­ing on it for four years – then came Bake Off.

I wouldn’t like to be in front of camera my­self; I pre­fer be­ing in the kitchen. That’s where I feel re­ally at home.’
