THRESHOLD’S TALES BECOME LEGENDS
Brits return with retro sound and former members on double concept album.
Threshold’s Legends Of The Shires will feature not one but two ex-band members. Founding vocalist/bassist
Jon Jeary and 90s-era singer Glynn Morgan are both on the ambitious new album, which will be released on Nuclear Blast on September 8.
Keyboard player Richard West says, “Very early on in the development process, me and Karl [Groom, guitars] sat down and decided we wanted to do something more progressive this time. Although we loved [2014 album] For The Journey, it didn’t go into so many complex places. On Legends… the songs are longer, the solos are longer, we delve into different places and it’s been great fun to make.”
Contrary to popular rumour, the double album has nothing to do with hobbits or Middle Earth. “The only reference to Lord Of The Rings is a little cheeky line at the end of Swallowed where Glynn sings, ‘They told you of rings and incredible things,’” reveals West. “The concept is about a group of shires trying to find their place in the world, but it’s a double story so could also be about a person trying to do the same thing. It’s the journey of someone going through life, the highs and lows, and how that changes them.”
Threshold have already unveiled a teaser video for the 10-minute Lost In Translation. At the time of press, they were completing production on a clip of Small Dark Lines, which is due out in August. The five-piece will be heading out on tour this winter and will play at London’s 02 Academy on December 10. For the full list of dates, visit www.thresh.net. NRS
