Shungite is primordial-level magic, a carbon rock formed billions of years ago from ancient algae. Shungite has quite a reputation as a health cure-all, especially when used in water elixirs as a purifier, however, it’s important to be aware that Shungite is available in two distinct varieties which should be used differently. Black Shungite (pictured, also called Classic Shungite) has a dull black sheen and is the more common, less expensive variety. Generally ground up and re-formed into polished shapes such as tumbled stones, beads, and pyramids, this form of Shungite contains only 30–35% carbon and should not be used for water purification and elixirs, as other minerals in it may be toxic. Use Black Shungite for protection grids, rituals and meditations, and place around your home and electronics for energy neutralisation and protection. Rarer, more expensive Silver Shungite (also called Noble or Elite Shungite) has a metallic sheen and is only available in raw pieces as it isn’t durable enough to be polished. Made mostly of pure carbon, Silver Shungite is the only type to use for water purification. Let it steep for at least a few hours, and drink to your health!

NOTE: Shungite is technically a rock, rather than a mineral or crystal, as it is made from organic material. It is found almost exclusively in one area of the world, near the Russian village of Shunga.
