RESONATOR ONE LITTLE INDIAN, OUT 18 NOVEMBER

Strong-willed folkie goes full jazz on 13th album. Anyone betting on where one-time folk singer and occasional children’s songwriter Williams’s career might go next would have got long odds on an album of jazz standards accompanied by vibraphone player Anthony Kerr. The idea behind Resonator was to strip down songs that have been plumped and polished over the years through myriad versions. The tracklist – which includes Stormy Weather, My Funny Valentine, Every Time We Say Goodbye and The Man I Love – is bullet-proof, songs so strong they could survive any treatment, but Kerr’s gentle arrangements allow Williams’s wonder of a voice to shine like never before.
