PorTmeirion, WaLes, 7-10 sePTember.
The Vibe: There’s surrealism for the whole family at this festival in an Italianate village in North Wales, where headlining indie staples disguise one of the most brilliantly eccentric festival line-ups in the UK, from psychedelic parties and high-brow chats to a rave for all-ages in the dedicated kids’ area. Line-Up Picks: Portmeirion is the sort of place Wayne Coyne would’ve come up with if he’d gone into townplanning, so it will be fascinating to see The Flaming Lips drawn into its fantastical world. Mogwai will provide a beautiful and noisy soundtrack to after-dark shenanigans. Likely To be Camping next To: Parents arguing over whose turn it is to stumble out of the House Of Rum at 4am. if You need a Time-out: Explorations away from the main site is where No.6 comes into its own. There’s the Castell (left), which is like a castle except it’s spelt wrong, and one of the stages has a swimming pool. You only get that at Reading when people start chucking bottles of piss around.
