CARPARK, OUT NOW Soulful, protean synth-rock from former chillwaver.

Once hailed as a leading light on the chillwave scene, Chaz Bundick has since manfully resisted attempts at further categorisation – 2015’ s Why Not? was an alternative funk-rock album, his collaboration with The Mattson 2 flirted with psychedelia. He even recently changed his name to Chaz Bear. Again on the move, this solo return takes inspiration from both ’ 80s dance and modern R&B, most notably the freeform approach of Frank Ocean, drifting from Don’t Try’s taut funk to the loose-knit, Afrobeats-inspired Windows and Girl Like You’s sugar-coated disco-pop. Immersive and enigmatic, it’s the work of a singular talent, with Bundick/ Bear’s hazy, soft-focus vocals supplying the magic touch.
