NIGHTLIFE HHH / RELEASE HHH / FUNDAMENTAL HHHH PARLOPHONE, OUT NOW

Q (UK) - - Q Review Reissues - NIALL DOHERTY

Tennant and Lowe’s turn-of-the-millennium evolution. This is the opening trio of albums in a run of Pet Shop Boys reissues. Nightlife, from 1999, has disco swagger that’s underpinned by urban alienation, while 2002’ ’s s Release was low-k low-key and uncertain. By 2006’ ’s s Fundamental, they had a fire in their belly again, mixing political ire and lavish production. It’s the extras fans will find most appealing, with an array of demos that peel away the sophisticated surface.
