MY HOUSE FROM ALL ANGLES MOREABOUTMUSIC/BLACKBALL MUZIK,
Acid house godfather still working the dancefloor.
He never achieved the brand recognition of contemporaries such as Frankie Knuckles or DJ Pierre, but Mike Dunn has been a pillar on Chicago’s house music scene since the late ’ 80s. His first album since 1990’ s Free Your Mind also shows he’s lost none of his feel for underground dance moves, Acid Rush’s sweatbox funk and the gruff, late-night radio vocal of Body Muzik evoking the cavernous, strobe-lit warehouse spaces that gave house music its name. Curious fans of contemporary pop-house acts such as Disclosure might find the spartan style forbidding, but once Dunn hits his groove it’s impossible not to feel the force. RUPERT HOWE
