MARMOZETS

KNOWING WHAT YOU KNOW NOW ROADRUNNER,

Q (UK) - - Q Review -

OUT 26 JANUARY Yorkshire brat-punks edge popwards. Robbie Williams doesn’t have much form as a pop-punk taste-maker, tho ugh he apparently knows star quality when he hears it. Williams tweeted his admiration for Marmozets a couple of years ago, and the Bingley four-piece seem to have absorbed some of his pop nous in return. While the band’s second album doesn’t entirely jettison their abrasive past, Play and the effervescent Habits sweeten the pill with sugar-rush choruses and subtle electronic background detail. But it’s singer Becca McIntyre who acts as a lightning rod throughout, whooping her way through Major System Error before dialling it down for Insomnia and the plaintive Me & You. Not so much a wholesale reinvention as an impressive readjustment. DAVE EVERLEY Listen To: Habits | Insomnia | Me & You

Marmozets: so who’s the lead singer, then?
