I’ve just started stamping and would love some tips on adding a background to my characters – they never look quite finished with white card all around them! Wendy Marks, Birmingham

Dorothy: You could draw a blue line or a faux-stitched effect around the image. If you place a Post-it note as a mask over the character you can also sponge a background across the card. Adding a circle to create a moon behind the characters also works well. How about stamping onto coloured card or kraft card? Stamps are often sold with coordinating dies to let you create toppers, which can add another dimension to the card. You could also dab ink onto a Teflon sheet and spritz with water to create background papers!
