Rail (UK) - - Network News -

Transport for London’s upgrade of escalators at Paddington Tube station on the Bakerloo Line has been completed almost two weeks ahead of plan, and the station re-opened on August 1.

Engineers replaced thousands of components on escalators, giving them an estimated 20-year life extension. Work started on April 2, and in addition to the escalator repairs a new switch room and lobby were built.

Construction of a 165metre tunnel underneath the station continued during the programme, to help provide easy interchange between the Elizabeth (Crossrail) and Bakerloo lines.

The Elizabeth Line is due to open from December 2018.
