Testing begins on Crossrail Aventras
The first Crossrail Class 345 Aventra was due to be taken to Old Dalby to begin testing as this issue of RAIL went to press.
The seven-car electric multiple unit (345001) will undergo months of testing before tests on the national network begin ( RAIL 807). It has been built by Bombardier at Derby Litchurch Lane.
The Class 345s begin entering traffic in May 2017 between London Liverpool Street and Shenfield. The first 16 trains of the 66-train order will be delivered as seven-car trains, but they will eventually all be nine-car EMUs, with the remaining Motor Standard Open vehicles inserted into 345001-345016 after delivery of the final nine-car trains.
