GBRf scoops Class 801 testing deal
GB Railfreight (GBRf) is to test Class 801 electric multiple units on the East Coast Main Line, after winning a contract from Hitachi Rail Europe which will run until April 2020.
Testing of the UK-assembled trains is due to start this spring. The first two sets arrived at Hitachi’s Doncaster depot in February, ahead of the start of the test programme.
GBRf has worked with Hitachi since 2013 on the test programme for the bi-mode versions of the Intercity Express Programme trains.
GBRf Managing Director John Smith said: “I’m pleased that GB Railfreight has the opportunity to extend its relationship with Hitachi, to ensure that these trains are tested and commissioned so that they are ready to deliver improved services for rail passengers.”
Hitachi Rail Europe IEP Programme Director Andy Rogers added: “We take great pride in watching our new inter-city trains run on the UK rail network. We look forward to working with GB Railfreight as we reach our next test milestone of running electriconly trains on the East Coast Main Line.”
