£200m Crossrail contribution
The City of London Corporation paid the Department for Transport £200 million on March 30 as its contribution towards the Crossrail project. The Corporation agreed to pay the fee in 2007, in recognition of the importance of Crossrail to the city.
The funding was contingent on completion of the ticket hall boxes at Lindsey Street (Farrington station) and Broadgate (Liverpool Street), the Moorgate shaft and Stockley Viaduct. With these now complete, the funding has been released.
Research conducted by the Corporation suggests that an additional 63,000 jobs in the City and Isle of Dogs will be created by Crossrail.
