Shakespeare Beach reopens
Shakespeare Beach in Dover has reopened, following the completion of a new footbridge over the Dover-Folkestone rail line. It marks the completion of the project to rebuild the sea wall in the area, following a breach on Boxing Day 2015.
While the railway was reopened in September 2016, completion of the sea defences and construction of the footbridge has taken until now to finish.
The reopening of the beach was marked by the president of the Channel Swimming Association Michael Read, who said: “The beach was the traditional starting point for swims and Channel swimmers have an affection for it.”
