Autumn cascade in the pipeline for DMUs

Rail (UK) - - Fleet News -

A small cascade of Porter brook owned diesel multiple units (DMUs) involving Great Western Railway (GWR), London Midland (LM) and Northern is planned for later this year.

Five GWR Class 153s are scheduled to move to LM in the autumn to replace three Class 150/1s, which in turn will move to Northern. The single-car ‘153s’ are 153325/329/333/361/369, and are the only five leased from Porterbrook by GWR. They will replace 150105/107/109, which are the only members of the class leased by LM.

The GWR Class 153s can be released by the introduction of Thames Turbo DMUs in the Bristol area. This will trigger an internal cascade, with Class 150/2s heading to Devon and Cornwall, where the ‘153s’ are used.
